Through the medium of photography and the use of materiality, terra-torii has attempted to predict future visual trends based on the cultural events and technological advancements of the early 1900s and beyond. These predictions have been separated into four palettes, each one representing a different perspective.

The palettes:

The Roaring 2020's, Sunlit Structures, The Fourth Industrial Revolution, and Campy Comfort.

Material Palette Trend 1 | The Roaring 2020’s

What an interesting decade it has been thus far. If history really is of repetitious nature, then perhaps we may experience a similar burst of extravagance and glamour, similar to that of the 1920’s. As we emerge from the shared hardship and solitude of 2020, might a world of glittering light, expressive color, and personality await us?

Material Palette Trend 2 | Sunlit Structures

I think we can all agree- now, more than ever, we’re looking for spaces that feel inherently clean. However, a sterile feeling environment isn’t always the most welcoming one. We’re imagining, even in this pandemic world, that an essence of warmth is still desired in the spaces we inhabit. We’re finding balance in this warm and sunny palette with the use of grid motifs to bring a level of structural cleanliness.

Material Palette Trend 3 | The Fourth Industrial Revolution

Inspired by recent innovative creators, this palette focuses on an exploration in futuristic aesthetics. Shifting patterns and textures, tinted earthly greens, and metallic suede suggest an experimental quality when brought together. If you’re interested in hearing about innovative and sustainable materials, stay tuned! We have more to share in the near future...

Material Palette Trend 4 | Campy Comfort

Do you find yourself feeling extra nostalgic these days? This may be a natural response to the increased amount of change most of us have experienced this past year. This is why an exploration of a palette that examines familiar patterns and cozy texture felt particularly relevant to us. Sometimes we just have to lean into our inner granny and cozy up with the knitting needles and a feline friend. We can’t wait to see how these antiquated patterns show up in future designs.
